The National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) defines executive functioning as “... a set of mental processes that helps connect past experience with present action. People use it to perform activities such as planning, organizing, strategizing, paying attention to and remembering details, and managing time and space.   It affects our ability to:
  1. Make plans
  2. Keep track of time and finish work on time
  3. Keep track of more than one thing at once
  4. Meaningfully include past knowledge in discussions
  5. Evaluate ideas and reflect on our work
  6. Change our minds and make mid-course corrections while thinking, reading, and writing
  7. Ask for help or seek more information when we need it
  8. Engage in group dynamics
  9. Wait to speak until we're called on
